Today, the most watched sport in America is football. But the next sport on that list is no longer baseball, not is it basketball – auto racing…specifically, NASCAR racing…has skyrocketed in growth and popularity. What was once a small operation in the South has turned into a global phenomenon raking in billions annually – an amazing feat for a sport where disaster can be the main attraction.
NASCAR racing has a long, storied past. Beginning with its roots in the Prohibition Era, the sport began in earnest when Bill France created the sanctioning body known as NASCAR in 1948. The sport that used to be a bootleggers’ paradise had turned into a real sport – and the big rush would come three decades later, culminating at the Daytona 500 in 1979. That year, the contest came down to the final laps, between drivers Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison. The bad blood shared between the two in this close finish brewed over into a post-race fight that actually endeared a generation of new fans to the sport. Millions of TV viewers had become a captive audience due to a huge snowstorm in the East – now, the race itself made them captive in a whole new manner.
NASCAR racing is made up of a host of series, including the well-known truck series, and the Nationwide Series. However, most mentions of the sport of NASCAR racing are referring to the Sprint Cup Series, the top series on the circuit. The Sprint series was once called the Winston Cup Series; in 2004, the sport decided to get an image-friendly sponsor in NEXTEL. When they merged with Sprint, the new name was born.
Drivers set out on a 26-race schedule that paves the way for a 10-race championship push known as the Sprint for the Cup. Whoever has emerged with the best point total once those 10 races are over is the champion. Only the top 12 regular season finishers are eligible for championship contention.
For many, NASCAR racing is linked to the faces and characters involved in the sport – legendary drivers like the late Dale Earnhardt, as well as Richard Petty and others. In addition, the current set of drivers – like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. – help power the sport now.
In 2001, at the season-opening Daytona 500, the sport lost a legend when Dale Earnhardt died on the final lap, while holding off other competitors to keep his son’s car and another teammate’s vehicle out in front on the final lap of the race. His loss touched racing fans around the country and the world, and few losses have ever been reflected on in the way The Intimidator’s loss still is to this day. If there was any good to come from the passing of a NASCAR racing legend, it was that the sport began a push to improve the safety of the drivers and the tracks.
Now, NASCAR racing is pushing forward to this generation of drivers – and new innovations that will continue to grow and diversify this sport now enjoyed by countless numbers of people.

Nascar Racing – The Growing Phenom
December 28th, 2011Find the Free Auto Repair Manual You Need Online
December 26th, 2011
You can easily get a free auto repair manual for whichever repair need you might have. You need an internet access and have to follow a certain procedure searching for auto repair manuals, but when you have done this procedure a few times it will be very easy to find the right instructions for do it yourself auto repair and it won’t cost you a dime.
There are four types of automotive description documents that you will need to choose from when you want to do a repair;
General manuals Diagnosis descriptions Repair manuals Maintenance manuals
General Manuals
In addition to some general manuals, most of these are related to the make. Here you can get step by step guidance on how to repair most of the makes in the vehicle market. Let’s say you have a Honda Acura 2002 model and you want to find a manual for that make and model. What you do is perform the following search in a search engine: “free car manuals+Honda Acura+2002″. Then you will have a long list of sites that provide you with all kinds of descriptions for your Honda Acure 2002 model, and you can choose what you want.
Diagnosis descriptions
Automotive diagnosis manuals can also be sub-divided by make and model. But it can also be divided by the area of the vehicle that is affected, for example engine intake problems, brake problems, cooling problems, exhaust problems, start or stall problems, transmission problems etc. Let’s say you have a start problem. Your search would be “car diagnosis manual+ start problem”, then you should get more than enough repair information to choose from. You can even get diagnostic trees where all options are covered for nothing.
You have probably more than one time heard some annoying noise from somewhere in your vehicle, without finding the source of it. This is one of the most ***** situations to run into because you don’t know if it is a serious signal or just a small thing. Some websites gives you the opportunity to diagnose vehicle problems by the noise, sound and vibrating signals – and that is great. The sooner you find it the sooner you can fix it and then you can relax. When you search, you can describe the sound, for example “whine noise” or “shifter knocks” or “driveline vibration” plus car diagnosis manual plus eventually the make.
Repair Manuals
In addition to regular manuals you can also get very instructive and detailed descriptions in other internet document or websites like articles, etc. The natural way to sub-divide such repairs before searching, is by the area of the vehicle that is going to be repaired, for instance body repair, exhaust repair, suspension fix, interior repair and even general car repair.
You do the search the same way as above; “car repair manual (or description) + the area of repair and go through the list of resources you get.
Maintenance manuals
Though vehicle maintenance is closely related to your vehicle make and model, there are some maintenance issues that are pretty much common whether you have a Cadillac, VW or a Mercedes, for example changing oil, changing air filters, engine wash, fluid maintenance, tier maintenance etc. You can get access to maintenance descriptions by searching for the kind of maintenance plus “car maintenance manual (or description)” plus eventually your make and model.
I think you’ll be amazed of the amount of automotive repair free stuff online.
Nascar – History of the Sport
December 26th, 2011
NASCAR is actually an acronym for the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. The organization was founded in 1948 by Ed Otto and William France. The two men recognized the fact that people enjoyed watching car races, and that there needed to be some standardization behind the racing industry in order to attract more racers and to make the races equitable for those who entered. Having more who were willing to enter the races naturally increased the number of fans who were willing to pay to watch – a natural step in the marketing of Nascar.
During those early years of Nascar racing, cars were “strictly stock,” meaning they were basically exactly as the manufacturer released them. But a few accidents convinced those in control of the racing events that some modifications for safety would be a prudent step. It wasn’t long before other modifications were allowed to increase speed, handling and other racing performance issues.
After about another decade of this type of racing, those who were serious about the sport began creating cars that were exclusively for racing. In those cases, the cars typically incorporated all the modifications allowed by the Nascar officials. For several more years, the body of the cars would continue to resemble the stock cars of the early racing days – though in appearance only.
The fact that so many people were attracted to Nascar wasn’t lost on companies that wanted to find advertising opportunities. This period of Nascar history marks the beginning of full-time jobs as drivers, promoters and pit crews of Nascar racing. The earliest companies who used the advertising opportunities were largely car manufacturers, though the 1970s saw a marked increase in the number of companies that sponsored racers.
Some who aren’t tried-and-true Nascar fans think there is only a single Nascar racing circuit, but the fact is there are several circuits sanctioned by the parent organization. Some of the largest events are televised and it’s probably this fact that has created the number of fans that follow the sport so closely.
The sheer number of fans has created superstardom for many of the Nascar drivers as well. Not only do those drivers make their living by racing, many are also spokesmen for products and companies, making their Nascar status even more profitable.
There’s no doubt that Nascar has a huge following. Most people have heard of Nascar and even those who don’t watch the sport can name a few of the more successful drivers. And it started because two men realized the potential for a racing organization to oversee the sport.
The Sport of Endurance Racing
December 26th, 2011
Automotive racing began, as a speed competition to see which make of car was the fastest. It was a powerful marketing tool for automotive manufacturers as the one with a winning car could expect dramatic increases in sales. Later, however, another form of motor sport developed, the endurance race. It differed from earlier events in that it was designed to test not just speed, but also the dependability of the machine. This competition would determine many factors about a car. Could it hold together when driven continuously at high speeds? Could it do this over public roads? And could it do this in both nighttime and daytime? The one important difference between endurance racing and other motor sports is the requirement for driving at night.
The first endurance competition was held in England as the first event on the newly completed closed circuit track, Brooklands. The race was sparked by Selwyn Edge, a British Napier dealer, who publicly announced that he and his team would drive continuously around the track for twenty-four hours at sixty miles per hour without a rest stop.
Edge was able to accomplish this. However, his achievement aroused the anger of the residents living near the court. The result was the innovation of The Double Twelve. In this event, drivers would race on one day from eight in the morning until eight at night. The cars would then be locked in for the night to be sure there would be no attempts at maintenance. They would race the following day, again from eight until eight.
In 1923, the Automobile Club of Sarthe in France established the first 24 hours of LeMans. It began on May 26, 1923 at four in the afternoon and ended at the same time on the following day. This competition differed from Brooklands in that part of the race was on public roads. Supposedly the desire to establish the dependability of headlights played a leading part in the organization of the event. While headlights, like many other accessories are taken for granted today, they were in their babyhood back then. With the exception of the World War II years and 1936, this is now an annual event. However, when LeMans was the scene of one of motor sports’ worst accidents in 1955, some regulations were changed and new ones implemented to improve safety.
The United States also organized endurance races, notably the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Over the years, these two races together with the 24 Hours of LeMans have come to be recognized as the most challenging of all and have earned the designation of ‘The Triple Crown.’ A Porsche 962 was the last car to win it in 1986. However, in 2003, Daytona made significant changes in the regulations and it is now impossible, because of the new car rules, for one racing car to claim the Crown. However, a driver can still win all three events and the first one to do this was the famous American racer, A. J. Foyt.
No Smoking Please – Big Tobacco’s Long Exit From Motorsports
December 25th, 2011
It wasn’t long ago that race fans couldn’t watch motorsports without seeing overt sponsorships by major cigarette brands. There was the Winston Cup, NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series and teams names like the Kool Green Team and Skoal Bandit Team. While it seemed at the time that tobacco companies could have easily bought out an entire track of race cars if they so desired, the good times for big tobacco in motorsports soon came to an end, just like all other successful advertising initiatives by the industry. As the dislike of the tobacco industry intensified and the people increasingly called for action, the rules of advertising began to change to favor public opinion.
Despite a federal ban on tobacco advertising on TV from the early ’70s, sponsorship of motorsports had allowed cigarette companies to effectively achieve the equivalent of paid TV advertising and in a timeslot when viewers were most vulnerable – while enjoying their favorite past time. The 1998 Master Settlement Agreement in the US changed all that. Not only did the cigarette companies agree to pay $368.5 billion over 25 years to 47 states, but sponsorships were also put to an end so as to discourage recruitment of new smokers to replace others who die or otherwise quit. The European Union, in its 2003 Tobacco Advertising Directive, also threw down the gauntlet. Big Tobacco could no longer advertise and sponsor “with the aim or direct or indirect effect of promoting a tobacco product”. Today, 168 countries have embraced the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control which in effect does the same thing.
Although with grace periods over and laws against them fully in effect, cigarette companies have of course still managed to find ways to get their message across through motorsports. The recent 2011 Marlboro-Ferrari barcode kerfuffle is one such instance.
The Dangers of Amateur Supercross Racing
December 24th, 2011
Are you interested in taking part in supercross motorcycle racing? Whether you are a devotee of the sport or just a disciple of the action packed excitement, there is a good chance that that you can be curious about participating. If this is the truth, it is important to remember one thing. Although your dream may be to become an expert supercross motorcycle racer, you have to begin somewhere. The place that you need to begin is at the amateur level.
When it concerns amateur supercross motorcycle racing, there is some confusion. Many are uncertain exactly what being an amateur entails. An amateur is defined as someone who is doing something part-time or competing in a recreational activity. Dependent on the type of route you take, you can’t only enjoy the sport, with a passion, but you can also make money while doing so, even at an amateur level. This is carried out by finding a local supercross motorcycle racing track; yet, this is where some of the confusion sets in.
Supercross motorcycle racing is a version of motocross racing. The only difference between the two is that supercross racing involves the employment of shorter, indoor tracks. Although your intention might be to start a career in supercross motorcycle racing, you might have to first give motocross racing an opportunity. The reason for this is not all regions, in the US, have indoor supercross motorbike racing tracks. Essentially, this implies that you will likely need to get your start on a more substantial, outdoor motocross track. Still, it is essential to note that it won’t be a total waste of your time. As a matter of fact, many professional supercross racers first got their start in motocross racing.
In the event that you don’t have access to a supercross motorbike racing track or even a motocross racing track, you can still practice for the sport. Many have been known to develop their own personal supercross motorbike racing courses, in addition to their own personal motocross racing courses. Reckoning on your commitment and the size of your home, you may very well be able to develop your own personal course, right in your individual backyard. However, it is important to remember something, safety. As with racing on a motocross or supercross track, your backyard can be just as harmful, if not more. Under the circumstances, you will need to make security your top priority.
Obviously, when it relates to safety, you can always look after yourself by putting on the proper safety gear. This gear should comprise the proper clothing, protective padding, along with a helmet. It is in addition advised that you never ride alone. This will help you at some point you might have a collision, should you must demand help someone will be there to aid you. The prior to this mentioned safety safeguards can simply be considered common sense, but there are additional precautions, ones that you might never have even thought of before. One of those precautions involves taking a motorcycle course.
Motorcycle training courses are offered all across the country. In point of fact, there is a strong possibility that that you have one in or around your home. If this is the truth, you are advised to take it. Almost all of these courses are offered at a reasonable price and they will provide you with an unlimited amount of knowledge. In additional to traditional motorbike racing courses, you might even find ones that are provided specifically for those curious about off-road riding. If a career in supercross racing is what you are looking for, these courses may be vital to your development as a rider.
As you can simply see, there are a number of various ways that you can set about participating supercross motorcycle racing. Whichever way you choose, it is critical to remember that supercross racing is a risky sport; therefore, you need to not forget to protect yourself.
The Radical Sport of Tubing
December 23rd, 2011
What better way to spend a sunny summer day than to go tubing? No, you shouldn’t confuse this water sport for the pipes or hoses that your plumber use when repairing your bathrooms or kitchen sink. Consider this type of tubing as the fun way to look at the word itself
Tubing is also referred to as inner tubing. In some groups, the slang “toobing” is also used to refer to this recreational sport.
Tubing is a water activity that entails a person to ride an inner tube either on water or snow. However, water tubing is considered more popular than snow tubing.
To go water tubing entails a person to ride a tube while a motorboat or a personal watercraft pulls on it. Tubing should be done in a river, a lake or any body of water with a large space for both tubes and motorboat to move around.
The current from the body of water conveys the tube while the high-speed pull from the motorboat gives the person riding the tube that sought after adrenaline rush that keeps tubing enthusiasts going back for more.
The tubes used for tubing are often times inner tubes of tires themselves or inflatable tubes specially designed for this recreational sport. If you are on a budget, some expert tubers commonly suggest looking through a phone book’s yellow pages and contacting some auto repair shops.
Try finding garages and service centers along a highway. More often than not, these establishments cater to trucks for repairs and tire replacement. Truck inner tubes are the best ones to use for tubing because they are large and sturdy enough to carry a full grown man.
Usually, a truck owner does not replace his trucks’ tires individually. More often than not, when a truck comes in for tire replacement, a garage owner ends up with several used truck inner tubes at a time.
If you know your way around and if you get on a garage owner’s good side, you can get these tubes for a very low price. If you are lucky, you may even get enough those inner tubes for free!
However, if you do not fancy tubing in old truck tires, there are specially developed tubes that you can buy on sport shops. These tubes may have built in handles for you to grip on while tubing.
Also, some tubes are crafted to have sleeves made from synthetic fabric to prevent the tubes from getting stretched and elongated while they are being pulled by a motorboat.
Like any recreational sport, tubing on water depends on the season. As already mentioned, it is best to go tubing during the summer and spring seasons when the sun is up and the temperament of the water is generally calm.
However, since tide and weather varies from state to state, it is best to inquire the local water recreational sports shops regarding the best time to go tubing.
It also is best to keep in mind some safety precautions when tubing. Checking local weather conditions is a step in doing so. Bear in mind that tubing before or after a storm can be dangerous because of the unpredictable movement of the water.
If you are just new to tubing, it is best to sign up with a water sport shop to help you go about with your tubing experience. Be sure that the water sport shop that you enlisted to go tubing with knows how to go about this sport. Tubing is a fun and exciting sport but it can be dangerous when not executed properly.
Lastly, it best to know how to swim when you go tubing. While in a tube, it is possible that you may fall in the water and risk the danger of drowning. If you do not know how to swim, have someone who knows how to swim ride on the tube with you. Have a life jacket on too just to be safe.
Now, who would have thought that the word tubing can go way beyond its usual definition?
Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park is “Perfection” For ATV Riders
December 20th, 2011
We first heard of Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park one cold winter in Roseau, Minn. One of the Polaris test engineers got all wide-eyed and excited as he was telling us about this riding park in North Carolina he had visited the previous fall. He kept telling stories of one-way trails, hillclimbs, jumps, mud, hardpack, loose rock, beautiful vistas. He went on and on about the park.
The Chance Arrives
The first thing I noticed was the nice building at the trailhead. Inside the building were showers and clean bathrooms. There was a vending truck parked next to the building set to serve hot dogs, hamburgers and anything else a tired trail rider may need. Across from the building was a place for hosing off dirty ATVs – a plus in my book.
I was greeted by Richard Mull, one of the park’s co-owners and the main architect of the park. He was happy to show me around.
Time to Find Out
Mull let me ride one of his own ATVs. It was an old Yamaha Big Bear 400; he rode a Yamaha BearTracker. Together we disappeared into the hills to explore the land nestled in the Brushy Mountains. The first trail we hit looped around a ridge and led to a clearing with a great view of the valley below. Continuing, I was surprised at the amount of elevation change. He took me on the “beginner” trails first to get a feel of the land and its variety. All the trails are clearly marked and use a ranking system similar to that on snow slopes. A green circle means the trail is easy and can be ridden by beginners. A blue square is for intermediate riders. And the black diamond is for advanced riders only. For the time being, we meandered on a green trail. The trail was wide and had multiple lines, including those around obstacles.
On the green trails, the hillclimbs were mild and there were several off-shoots – most of them marked with blue squares and black diamonds. I hinted that maybe it was time to up the skill level of the trails – so Mull took me to the harder trails. The blue trails were much harder than the green trails; they had a lot of abrupt elevation change and nice mud holes. Mull said that some of the trails hold water for almost the whole year, while others can dry out. The trails were tacky from rain the previous week, so traction was great. Even when things are bone dry, Mull said the trails deep in the woods retain moisture well. Some of the hillclimbs were a little extreme for “intermediate” status, making me wonder what I was in store for on a black-diamond trail!
The blue trails were more muddy and tighter than the green trails. A lot tighter. If you are looking for twists, dips and turns, these are the trails for you. But all things must come to an end, and we had to hit at least one black diamond trail. Even on his BearTracker, Mull was happy to hit the hardest of the trails. He wasn’t kidding, these are black-diamond trails indeed. Imagine hillclimbs where there is no choice but to finish it out. These are the kind of trails that can catch unsuspecting riders off guard. So it is imperative that everyone in your riding group is an advanced rider before you hit these ATV trails.
As indicated, the trails are marked for difficulty, but they are also numbered. A map shows all the trails and also their difficulty, and the trails are well marked throughout the system. Plus, if you need to get back to the main office, most trails have signs that direct you so you don’t have to consult the map. One thing I did appreciate on the BMMS trails were their one-way nature, so there was no risk of blowing a corner and meeting another rider head-on. This contributes to safety, and allowed us to ride at a faster pace than normal.
The Story
Mull started this project years ago. Originally, the project began in an adjacent county, but was derailed when local environmental groups complained to the county board. After trouble at a meeting one night, Mull thanked everyone for coming and said he was taking his money and idea elsewhere. After a little more searching, he found another piece of property and started again. Citizens near the second site (near Hickory, N.C.) were happy to have Mull and his park.
“I started this because I was able to ride everywhere when I was a kid,” says Mull. “Now, I want my kids to be able to ride in a good area, too.” He also wanted to give riders the trails and facilities that he thinks is lacking in North Carolina. “There aren’t a lot of riding areas in North Carolina,” he explains. “And where there is riding, the areas are overcrowded with too many riders.”
Thus BMMS opened.
Rules
If you go, there are some rules you must follow. First, is age guidelines. BMMS strictly adheres to the manufacturer guidelines on engine sizes. That means that no children younger than 16 years old can ride a machine more than 90cc. Children aged 12 to 16 must stay on machines 90cc and less. And those aged 6 to 11 can ride machines 70cc and less. Safety gear is also strictly enforced, and riding double is not allowed.
Mull is strictly enforcing a sound limit for all machines on the trails. A 99dB limit at 3,500 rpm is enforced and all silencers must have a USFS-approved spark arrestor.
These rules are a necessary thing in this age of litigation. Mull says in order to maintain insurance on the park, and not open himself to a financially devastating lawsuit, the rules are strictly enforced. He also said he is not afraid to turn patrons away if they do not follow the rules of the park. In short, call before you go to ensure you comply with the rules.
The rules are in place for everyone’s safety and, in my opinion, they enhance the riding experience because you know everyone is serious about having fun on these beautiful trails!
Motor Insurance Explained
December 18th, 2011
It doesn’t matter whether you’re an old driver or a young driver motor insurance is a legal requirement and something you’ll have to understand if you want to drive in the UK.
If you want to drive your car, motorbike or van then you’ll have to make sure you have motor insurance. If you don’t, then not only could you be liable for huge costs in case of an accident; you’ll be at risk of arrest, a huge fine and in all likelihood, the loss of your car. Insurance is there to protect you, your vehicle and other motorists against the costs of any accident that causes injury or damage to property. Although there can be a huge differences between the policies offered by different providers, there are three broad types of motor insurance cover.
Third Party:
This is the minimum level of cover required by law. Effectively this is ‘liability insurance’ – it’s not so much for compensating you as it is for compensating anyone else involved in an accident that was your fault. Obviously if you don’t have this, you’d have to pay the costs directly. Not many people can afford this, hence the law.
All types of motor insurance have third party cover as their basic level of protection. However, nearly all companies will offer additional levels of cover that aren’t required by law but are usually worth considering depending on your circumstances.
Third Party Fire and Theft
Fairly self explanatory, this is the same cover as third party insurance – but also helps you more directly. Under this type of insurance, you’ll be covered in case your vehicle is damaged by fire or stolen.
Comprehensive:
As you might imagine this is the most exhaustive types of cover. Although this tends to be most expensive as well, it can be extremely useful in case of an accident, particularly if you rely on using your vehicle. Not only does it provide all the cover available to third party fire and theft, it also protects you in case your car is damaged in accidents where there isn’t another party – so if you crash your car without damaging anything else, this will pay out.
RX7 is a Legend in Motor Sports
December 17th, 2011
More about Mazda Sports Car – RX7
Mazda RX7 has been a proud possession of high speed enthusiasts since the last four decades. Rotary engine was first invented in 1957 by a German Engineer named Felix Wankel. He believed in 4 strokes as to be achieved while rotating. Initially there was no success in the automobiles and it disappeared from the vehicle manufacturers engineering labs until Mr. Masuda Tsuneji identified the potential and worked with NSU in the research and development of rotary engine. In 1967 Mazda succeeded in producing the world’s first dual rotar rotary engine.
The RX-7 is also a powerful car. It uses a naturally aspirated, 1.3L rotary engine which can develop a maximum of 246 hp at 8,500 rpm with the sustained redline pegged at 8,500 rpm and a peak redline at 9,000 rpm. The engine performed well enough to win the International Engine of the Year and Best New Engine awards in 2003.
The RX-7 has gained pop cult status and has even been featured in many movies and videos, most notably in the movie Need for Speed. Many used car auction have RX-8 offerings, especially in online Japanese auction sites for Japanese used cars.
RX8 was introduced by Mazda after RX7 but did not gain popularity, there are assumptions about the bad design and performance Assuming Mazda does move forward with the production of the RX-7, it will be the first production car to house the new Renesis 16x rotary power plant. 300cc increase in displacement and little retuning, the 16x is said to be able to crank out 350hp and 215lb/ft. Assuming Mazda keeps the RX-7′s lightweight roots, this will be more than adequate for the 2-seater sports car.
RX7 has also gained lots of popularity from rallies where the first generation RX7 came on scenes at 1983 Olympus Ralley. In 1988 Mazda made few minor changes in her 2nd. Generation but only in exterior but full design change was not introduced till 1991 late. This model is most popular and is still adored and brings a good price tag for a well kept car. As better known by its 3rd. generation is most sold of all the 3 generations of RX7.
Mazda Rotary has been receiving awards since 1968 for its performance, invention and innovation.
RX7 lovers are always looking for new accessories and performance kits to make something different and have more fun with this car. Still a good number of RX7 are exported from Japan which are considered to be loaded with lots of performance parts mostly made in Japan. The mileage on these cars are lower because Japanese drivers only drive on week-ends and do not put extra miles. Japan Auto Auctions are also best source and are easily accessible through Online Used Car Brokers websites. A Japanese Car Company can be consulted for best deals available from japan.
